Toto Bathroom Remodeling: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

A full Toto bathroom remodel in Orange County typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single fixture or gutting the room to the studs. Most of our Toto work involves swapping failing parts on existing toilets, washlets, and tubs, or replacing the fixture entirely when the repair math doesn’t pencil out. You’ll usually find us on a job because a Toto fill valve started hissing at 3 a.m., a washlet seat stopped heating, or a skirted toilet developed a slow leak at the supply connection that nobody noticed until the baseboard swelled.

We’re an independent Orange County remodeling contractor, not a Toto dealer or factory service center. That matters because we give you a straight comparison: repair what you have or upgrade to a new Toto with a written price either way, before a single tool comes out of the truck.

Which Toto Models This Applies To

A walk-in shower with large-format tile and a built-in niche

Toto’s lineup in Orange County homes breaks into a few families, and the compatibility rules are not forgiving if you guess wrong. The Drake and Drake II are the workhorses we see most: 12-inch rough-in, G-Max or Tornado Flush systems, and widely available OEM parts. The Ultramax and Nexus sit in the one-piece category, and they use different tank-to-bowl gaskets than the two-piece models. Washlets (the S550e, S500e, and C5 series) are electronic seats that bolt onto specific Toto bowls, not universal replacements. And Toto’s skirted toilets (the Carlyle II, Legato, and Aquia) hide the trapway behind a smooth skirt, which means the mounting hardware and supply line routing differ from a standard exposed-trapway toilet. If you’re not sure which model you have, lift the tank lid: Toto stamps the model number inside the tank or on the bowl behind the seat hinges. That number tells us exactly which parts will fit.

For Toto specifically, we recommend OEM fill valves, flush valves, and gaskets. Toto’s flush valve flapper is a 3-inch design on most modern models, not the standard 2-inch flapper you’ll find on generic toilets, and an aftermarket mismatch causes weak flushes and constant running. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but the tolerances on Toto’s canister flush valves are tight enough that a few dollars saved up front turns into a second service call. We stock OEM Toto parts on the truck for the Drake series and common Washlet remote controls, and we can have model-specific parts for the one-piece and skirted lines in hand within a day through our Orange County suppliers.

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Constant running or ghost-flushing. A failing flush valve seal or a fill valve set too high lets water trickle from tank to bowl. On Toto’s Tornado Flush models, this usually points to the canister seal, not the flapper, and it’ll show up on your water bill before you hear it.
  • Weak or incomplete flush. Mineral buildup in the rim jets or a worn flush valve means you’re flushing twice. Orange County water is hard, and Toto’s rim jets are smaller than average, so scale accumulates faster here than in softer-water regions.
  • Water at the base of the toilet. This is almost always a failed wax ring or a hairline crack in the bowl. With Toto’s skirted designs, a base leak can run along the skirt and show up several inches from the actual source, so the visible puddle misleads you about where the problem is.
  • Washlet seat not heating or remote not responding. The S550e and S500e seats have internal heating elements and control boards that fail after years of use. If the seat powers on but won’t heat, it’s the heating element; if the remote won’t pair, it’s usually the control board or a dead seat battery.
  • Weak flush after a water pressure change. If your Orange County neighborhood switched to a pressure-regulating valve or you changed your whole-house pressure, some Toto models with older fill valves won’t refill the tank to the correct water line, and the flush gets progressively weaker over a few weeks.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled hall bathroom with subway tile and a floating vanity

For a full Toto bathroom remodel in Orange County, plan on $9,000 to $28,000. A single Toto fixture replacement, like swapping a Drake for a new Drake II or adding a Washlet to an existing bowl, typically lands on the lower end. A full gut-and-rebuild with a Toto skirted toilet, a new Toto tub or shower base, tile work, vanity, and finishes pushes toward the top of that range.

The spread comes down to what’s behind the walls. If your existing rough-in is at the standard 12-inch measurement and the subfloor is sound, labor stays tight. If we find a non-standard rough-in, rotted subfloor from a long-running base leak, or plumbing that doesn’t meet current Orange County code, the price moves accordingly, and we tell you before we touch it. Every job gets a written price before work starts, with parts and labor separated so you see exactly what you’re paying for. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a Toto install we did fails within a full year, we come back and correct it at no charge. You’ll have that in writing, signed, the day we finish.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: locate the model number inside the tank, confirm whether your supply line is leaking at the valve, and note whether the issue is constant or intermittent. That information helps us show up with the right parts on the first trip.

Where DIY goes sideways with Toto is the skirted toilet installation and any Washlet electronics. The skirted bowl uses a proprietary mounting bracket that has to sit level against the finished floor, and the supply connection is not the standard rigid chrome line you’ll see on a builder-grade toilet. Cross-threading that connection or over-tightening the bowl bolts means a cracked porcelain bowl, and you’re not repairing that, you’re replacing it. Washlet seats run on 120-volt circuits and water connections in close quarters; if you’re not comfortable working around both, don’t. Call (562) 262-2907 and we’ll give you a straight number over the phone after you read us the model number.
