Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

Adding square footage with Silestone surfaces throughout runs $45,000 to $130,000 for a home addition in Orange County, and $90,000 to $220,000 for a full ADU construction. We stock and install Silestone-compatible countertops, backsplashes, and island surfaces for additions and accessory dwelling units across Orange County, with written pricing before any work starts. Here’s the part most owners miss: Silestone is not one product line. It’s a quartz brand with multiple thicknesses, edge profiles, and finish grades, and matching the wrong slab to an existing addition or ADU spec is where projects go sideways.

Most homeowners call us after the drywall is already up and they’re standing in an unfinished kitchen wondering why the quote from their original contractor didn’t include the Silestone install. Or they bought a slab themselves and the fabricator won’t touch it because the substrate wasn’t prepped. We walk into these mid-project messes all over Orange County, from Fullerton to Mission Viejo, and the fix is always the same: stop, verify the spec, and square the scope in writing before cutting a single piece.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

Silestone produces quartz slabs in three thicknesses sold in the U.S. market: 1.2 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. For home additions and ADUs in Orange County, 3 cm is the standard for kitchen countertops and island tops because it carries the overhang load without additional plywood underlayment. The 2 cm material shows up more in bathroom vanities, shower curbs, and backsplash applications. If you’re matching an existing Silestone surface in your main house to the new addition, you need the exact color series and the slab lot number. Silestone batches vary. A Blanco Zeus cut in 2021 will not match a Blanco Zeus cut in 2024 under natural light. We’ve seen it. It’s one of the most common callbacks in the trade.

Silestone is a quartz product, not natural stone, which means the color runs are factory-controlled. That works in your favor for consistency within a lot, but against you when you try to match across lots. The brand’s finish options include polished, suede (matte), and volcano (textured). For additions and ADUs in Orange County, we default to polished for kitchen surfaces and suede for bathroom vanities unless the spec says otherwise. Aftermarket fabricators cut all Silestone grades, but the edge profile tooling differs by slab thickness. We run CNC-cut profiles matched to the manufacturer’s standard edge catalog. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Silestone, and we say that plainly so there’s no confusion on warranty path. The material warranty comes from Silestone. The installation warranty comes from us.

Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Cracking at the seam or near the sink cutout. Cracks in quartz almost always trace back to the substrate. If the plywood or cabinetry underneath flexes even an eighth of an inch under load, the Silestone carries stress it was never designed to absorb. In Orange County, foundation movement from expansive soil only makes this worse.
  • Chipping along the front edge. This is usually an edge profile problem. A homeowner doing dishes with cast iron pans, or kids pulling barstools against the overhang, will chip an eased edge faster than a beveled one. The profile choice matters more than most people think.
  • Visible gap between the backsplash and the countertop. Quartz doesn’t shrink, so when a gap opens up, the counter or the wall behind it is moving. In additions and ADUs, this often shows up six to twelve months after framing settles.
  • Dead spots in the finish where it should shine. Silestone’s polished finish is a factory process. If someone uses the wrong abrasive during fabrication or install touch-up, you’ll see dull patches that catch light differently. It won’t polish out by hand. The slab needs professional refinishing or replacement.
  • Water damage on the cabinet face below the sink. The Silestone isn’t failing; the install is. If the undermount sink rim wasn’t sealed properly, water tracks down and rots the cabinet over time. We’ve opened more than one addition in Orange County where the counter was fine and the cabinet underneath was mush.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

For an Orange County home addition kitchen, expect $14,000 to $45,000 for the room depending on size, layout, and cabinet grade. The Silestone countertop portion of that typically runs $2,000 to $6,500 installed. ADU construction as a full build runs $90,000 to $220,000, with the Silestone surfaces following the same per-square-foot math. Here’s what drives the countertop number:

  • Slab size and seam count. A 10-foot island takes a full slab. A galley kitchen with standard-depth counters can often use two slabs with one seam.
  • Edge profile. Eased and beveled edges are standard. Ogee, bullnose, and waterfall profiles add fabrication time and cost.
  • Thickness. 3 cm costs more than 2 cm, but it’s the right call for kitchens. We’ll tell you if 2 cm will work and save you money, but we won’t spec it where it shouldn’t go.
  • Backsplash height and material. Full-height Silestone backsplash runs higher than a 4-inch strip, and that’s a bigger material commitment.

Every bid from us includes the slab, fabrication, templating, delivery, installation, and the written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the installation fails inside that year, we return and correct it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s not a handshake. It’s on paper before we cut.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can check your existing Silestone for visible cracking, seam separation, and edge chipping before you call anyone. Measure your current countertops and take photos with your phone camera held level to the surface. That helps us ballpark the scope before we visit. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to cut, seam, or move Silestone yourself. The material is heavy. A 3 cm slab section for an island can weigh over 300 pounds, and a dropped corner on concrete slab-on-grade flooring, common across Orange County, cracks the quartz and risks serious injury. Fabrication requires diamond tooling and a controlled surface. If the original install failed because of substrate movement, no new Silestone will fix that. The structure underneath has to be corrected first, and that means opening up framing. That’s our job.

If you’re mid-project or staring at a failed Silestone install in a new addition or ADU, call us at (562) 262-2907. We’ll put a straight number on paper before any work starts.
