Bufftech Fence Installation: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

Bufftech fence installation in Orange County typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, depending on the panel series, linear footage, and whether we’re replacing a section or running an entirely new line. Our crews stock Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, and panel hardware, and we can match most current-series Bufftech profiles without waiting on special-order parts. Most owners discover they need us when a gate post starts leaning after a Santa Ana wind event, or when a panel splits at the bottom rail after years of sprinkler overspray against the vinyl.

If you bought a Bufftech fence five to fifteen years ago, you already know the product holds its color better than most vinyl on the market. What fails first is rarely the panel itself. It’s the post footing, the gate hardware, or a cracked bottom rail where a weed trimmer has been chewing at it. Curtis Lane has walked enough Orange County backyards to know that a leaning Bufftech post usually means the original installer skimped on the concrete footing, not that the vinyl gave out.

We’re an independent Orange County contractor. We are not affiliated with Bufftech or its parent company, but we work with their panel dimensions and post profiles every week. Our written price covers the parts, the labor, the concrete, and the cleanup. No numbers that move at the door.

Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech has produced several panel series over the years: Brookline, Coventry, Fairmont, Hartford, Kensington, Manchester, Sherwood, Sierra, and the heavier CertaGrain texture lines. Each series uses a slightly different rail-to-panel profile, and that matters when you’re replacing one section. A Manchester panel will not seat cleanly into Coventry rails, even if the overall panel width looks close. We measure the panel width, the rail receiver height, and the post wall thickness before we order or pull anything from stock.

How to identify your model: look on the inside face of a bottom rail, near the post. Bufftech stamps a small manufacturing date code and sometimes a series code there. If the stamp is faded, measure the panel. Bufftech privacy panels are typically 6 feet wide by 4, 5, or 6 feet tall, with posts running 2.5″ x 2.5″, 4″ x 4″, or 5″ x 5″ depending on the series and the wind-load calculation. The CertaGrain series runs slightly thicker than standard Bufftech panels, which affects how the pickets seat into the rails.

On OEM versus aftermarket: Bufftech’s own replacement parts carry a limited lifetime warranty on the vinyl itself, but aftermarket Bufftech-compatible panels from reputable extruders often match the profile dead-on at 30 to 40 percent less. We’ll price both, and we’ll tell you plainly if we think the aftermarket part is a bad idea for your specific series. On a Brookline or a Manchester, aftermarket is fine. On an older discontinued series, OEM is the safer play because the rail profile tolerances were tighter.

One compatibility gotcha we see in Orange County: Bufftech changed its post wall thickness on some series around 2012. An older post from 2009 and a newer post from 2015 can look identical from the outside. Mix them on a gate, and the hinge screws will not hold the same torque. We check for that before we hang a gate.

Signs Your Bufftech Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean, especially after wind. This usually means the concrete footing was poured too shallow or too narrow. Orange County winds out of the Cajon Pass put steady lateral load on full-height panels, and a 2-foot-deep footing in sandy loam will not hold. The fix is a re-set post with a proper 3-foot-plus footing and fast-set concrete, not shimming the post base.
  • Sagging gate with a dragging latch side. The hinge screws have stripped out of the vinyl post, or the gate frame was never reinforced. Vinyl gate posts need an internal steel or aluminum stiffener, and a gate over 4 feet wide needs a steel frame insert inside the vinyl rails. If your gate never had one, it will sag no matter how many times you tighten the hinges.
  • Panel popping out of the bottom rail. This is almost always caused by something hitting the panel repeatedly, or by a rail that has filled with water. Vinyl rails are hollow; if the end caps are missing and sprinkler water gets inside, the rail swells and flexes in the Orange County sun, and the panel tongue walks out of the groove.
  • Cracked or shattered section near the ground. Vinyl gets brittle with age and UV exposure, especially on the untextured face of older Bufftech panels. Add a mower deck or a string trimmer line hitting the same spot for a few seasons, and you get a split. This is a panel replacement, not a repair, and the rest of the fence stays.
  • Chalky, faded finish that won’t clean up. Bufftech panels resist fading better than most, but 15-plus years of Orange County sun will dull the surface. If the color is chalked through, replacing just one panel will make the rest look worse. That’s when we talk about a full-line replacement or an extension of the existing run.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A finished basement family room with a media wall and wet bar

Bufftech fence installation in Orange County runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a typical residential job. A single-section repair – one panel, maybe one post, hardware – lands at the bottom of that range. A full backyard perimeter with a gate and double-post corners lands near the top. The cost driver is usually the linear footage and the number of posts, not the panel series itself.

Here’s how we break it down on a written quote:

  • Single post re-set: $350 to $650, including new fast-set concrete and re-securing the panel rails.
  • Single panel replacement: $450 to $850, including matching the series and color, plus new rail hardware.
  • Gate replacement on existing posts: $800 to $1,800, including steel frame insert, new hinges, and latch adjustment.
  • Full perimeter Bufftech fence install (150 – 225 linear feet): $5,500 to $9,000, including all posts, panels, concrete, gate, and removal of the old fence.

Every quote includes the parts, the labor, the concrete, the gate hardware, and haul-away of the old material. We put it in writing before we start, and we honor it. If the scope changes because you add footage or we hit something unexpected underground, we tell you before we spend a dollar. No surprises at final invoice.

The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a post shifts, a panel pops, or a gate sags inside the first year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, in your hand, before the first post goes in the ground.

DIY or Call Us?

Vinyl fencing is one of the safer fence materials to work with – no splinters, no pressure-treated chemical dust, no high-tension springs. That said, the parts of a Bufftech install that fail are almost always the parts a homeowner should not be doing alone: resetting a post in concrete, squaring a gate, or cutting vinyl rail to a clean, sealed line. A crooked post set in fresh concrete is now a problem that has to be dug out and started over.

What you can do safely: check your post footings and note which way they lean, look for the series code stamped on the bottom rail, and clear soil or grass away from the post bases so water doesn’t pool. That’s useful information that makes our first visit faster. What you shouldn’t do: try to straighten a leaning post with shims, attempt to hang a new gate on an unstiffened vinyl post, or cut a replacement panel with a circular saw and no jig. Vinyl chips and cracks when it’s cut freehand, and a cracked rail end is a call-back waiting to happen.

If the fence looks straight but you’re not sure, call (562) 262-2907 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a straight read on whether it’s a repair or a replacement, and what it’ll cost. Estimates are free.
