Jerith Fence Installation: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

Jerith fence installation in Orange County typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full residential run, depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re working with aluminum or steel sections. We stock Jerith-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate hardware on our trucks, and most replacement sections go in the same day we show up. The usual discovery goes like this: a gate that starts dragging on the concrete, a post that’s leaning after the Santa Anas, or a bottom rail that finally rusted through where the sprinklers have been hitting it for a decade.

You’re not the first Orange County homeowner to inherit a Jerith fence from a previous owner and have no idea which model you own. That’s the most common call we get. You’ll find the answer in the next section.

Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith has been manufacturing aluminum and steel fence systems since 1961, and over that span they’ve made dozens of residential series lines. The ones we see most often in Orange County tracks and older subdivisions are the Guardian, Regal, Estate, Summit, and the older Classic II line. Most Jerith sections are 6 feet wide on center, with 1-5/8″ or 2″ square posts depending on the series. Height matters for compatibility: Jerith makes 36″, 42″, 48″, 54″, 60″, and 72″ sections, and you can’t swap a 48″ panel into a run built for 60″ without replacing posts and adjusting gate frames. That’s a gotcha worth knowing before you have a handyman knock on the door.

To identify your model, start at the gate. The manufacturer label is usually riveted to the inside face of the gate frame, near the bottom rail. If the label is gone, measure the picket spacing and the outside diameter of the top and bottom rails. Most Jerith residential lines use 1″ round rails and 5/8″ square pickets with a 3-7/8″ spacing. For older steel Jerith fences, check the post caps and the way the rails seat into the post brackets. As for OEM versus aftermarket: Jerith’s Ohio factory still supports the active lines with exact-match sections and gate kits. For discontinued lines, we use aftermarket extrusions from a couple of U.S. fabricators that match Jerith’s picket profile and rail dimensions so the repair doesn’t look like a patch job. We’re an independent company, not affiliated with Jerith, so we’ll tell you straight when OEM is worth the lead time and when a quality equivalent gets the job done for less.

Signs Your Jerith Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drag or a gate that won’t latch. This is rarely the latch itself, though homeowners often replace the latch first. The usual cause in Orange County is post settlement or a gate frame that’s sagged from years of wind and repeated slamming. The fix is re-setting the hinge post and squaring the frame, not buying new hardware.
  • Leaning or twisted posts. Older Jerith installations in this area were sometimes set in shallow concrete or no concrete at all, and our expansive clay soils don’t hold a post the way a concrete footing will. When the ground shifts between wet winters and dry summers, the post moves with it.
  • Rust bleeding at the bottom rail or post base. Steel Jerith fences are powder-coated, but the coating fails first where irrigation water hits it. Orange County water has minerals that accelerate corrosion once the coating is compromised. What starts as a brown stain becomes a structural problem within two or three seasons.
  • Loose or missing pickets. On older runs, the self-tapping screws that hold pickets to the rails back out from thermal expansion. You’ll see it as a fence that rattles in the wind or pickets you can wiggle by hand.
  • Gate posts that wobble when you pull the gate open. That’s lost mechanical bond between the post and the footing, or a footing that was undersized to start. It will not get better on its own, and forcing the gate only packs the soil and enlarges the void.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

For Orange County, a full Jerith-compatible fence installation runs $3,500 to $9,000. A partial repair like replacing one failed gate or a ten-foot section runs at the low end or below it; a long run with two gates and old concrete to excavate puts you at the top. The range is driven by three things: linear footage, whether we’re re-using the existing posts or setting new ones, and the gate count. Every gate adds hardware, frame work, and hinge adjustment time.

Our price includes parts, labor, haul-away of the old sections, and disposal. You get a written price before any work starts, and that number does not move at the door. Every job closes with a clean site and the signed 365-Day Done Right Promise in your hand: if anything we installed fails within one year, we come back and correct it at no charge. Straight number, clear scope, no surprises at final invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a section of Jerith fence is not dangerous the way a garage spring is, but it goes wrong in ways that cost more than the original repair. The parts are heavy enough that a panel can clock you when a rail bolt lets go. If you’re replacing a single picket or tightening loose hardware, that’s reasonable homeowner work, and you should check the rail bolts and hinge screws before you call anyone. Once you’re lifting sections, digging footings, or re-setting posts in Orange County’s clay, you need a second set of hands and a sense of what “level” should look like on a run that’s pitched with your yard, not against it.

We’ve been called out to fix plenty of Saturday-afternoon attempts that ended with a twisted gate frame and a scratched truck. If you’re not sure, call us at (562) 262-2907 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you if it’s a phone fix, a truck fix, or something in between.
