ViewLux Fence Installation: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
ViewLux fence installation in Orange County typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a complete run, depending on linear footage, post setting, and whether we’re pulling an old fence line or starting fresh. That’s the installed number, parts and labor, in writing before we touch the ground. Most homeowners find this page because a section of ViewLux panel has cracked, a post has heaved out of plumb, or the gate is dragging against the latch plate and nobody can tell them whether to patch it or pull it. Here’s the honest answer: ViewLux composite and vinyl fencing uses a proprietary rail-and-picket lock system, which means a failed section cannot always be swapped piece by piece the way you can with cedar boards. Sometimes the whole panel comes out. We’ll tell you which one you’re in before you spend a dollar.
We’re an independent Orange County contractor, not affiliated with ViewLux, and we keep ViewLux-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate kits on our trucks because we know the brand’s locking channels and post dimensions well enough to match an existing line without guesswork. If you’re in Anaheim Hills, Yorba Linda, Huntington Beach, or anywhere else in Orange County, call (562) 262-2907 and we’ll get you a written price.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux has run several product generations through the Orange County market, and the compatibility gotcha that catches most owners is this: current-generation ViewLux pickets measure 7/8 inch thick with a different locking profile than early-2000s panels, which ran a narrower 5/8 inch profile. You cannot snap an old picket into a new rail, even though the face width looks identical at arm’s length. Before we quote, we check the back of a picket or the inside of a bottom rail for the mold imprint, and we measure the picket thickness with a caliper, not a tape measure. That one measurement tells us which parts bin to pull from.
For the ViewLux series installed across Orange County’s coastal and inland communities, we generally see three categories: the original vertical-picket privacy panel, the semi-private spaced-picket line used on a lot of HOA-governed lots in Irvine and Mission Viejo, and the newer horizontal-slat modern profile that’s become common in Costa Mesa and Fullerton. Rails and posts are not interchangeable across categories. The semi-private line uses a notched rail spacing that the privacy line does not, and the horizontal slat system uses a completely different post channel with a concealed fastener track. If we have to special-order an odd color or a discontinued series, we’ll tell you the lead time in days, not weeks, and we’ll put that date in the written scope.
On OEM versus aftermarket: ViewLux’s OEM parts carry the exact color-match and the UV stabilizer package the original panel shipped with. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for posts and aluminum stiffeners, and we use them where they match the existing line and the manufacturer’s spec sheet. We will not install a no-name aftermarket picket into a ViewLux line and call it matched. The sun in Orange County does not let a color mismatch hide for long.

Signs Your ViewLux Fence Installation Is Failing
- Picket is cracked at the lock channel, usually within 8 inches of the rail. This is the most common failure in Orange County. Thermal expansion and contraction across a wide temperature swing, especially inland where summer days hit 100 and winter nights drop to the 40s, puts constant stress on the locking tab. Once that tab cracks, the picket will not reseat.
- Post is leaning or the gate is dragging against the latch side. This usually means the post footing was poured too shallow or the post itself is undersized for the panel span. In Orange County’s heavier clay soils, the ground moves seasonally and will expose a shallow footing within a few years. A post that has moved more than an inch out of plumb is a structural failure, not an alignment adjustment.
- Bracket is pulling away from a wall or column. On runs that tie into stucco or block, the original install sometimes used standard screws instead of concrete fasteners or didn’t hit the structure’s framing behind the stucco. The bracket hangs on for a while, then pulls out clean, leaving a gap the wind gets behind.
- Bottom rail has sagged or is separating from the picket line. Water sat against the bottom rail for too many irrigation cycles, or the original installer left the rail ends uncapped and they filled with dirt and moisture. The rail’s internal supports corrode or the channel widens, and the pickets start to rattle loose.
- Color and texture differ panel to panel, or the panel has gone chalky and brittle. ViewLux panels from different production runs can fade at different rates in California sun exposure. When an older panel is chalky enough that running a thumbnail leaves a mark, the material has degraded past repair. Replacement is the only clean fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Orange County residential fence, installed ViewLux replacement runs from $3,500 for a shorter run with a couple of new posts up to $9,000 for a full perimeter replacement with a new gate, concrete post footings, and some demo of the old line. The range moves on three things: how many posts go in concrete versus reusing existing sockets, linear footage of panel and rail, and whether the property sits on one of Orange County’s expansive soil pockets that requires deeper, wider post footings to hold plumb.
Every quote includes parts, labor, setting compound, haul-away of the old materials, and our written 365-Day Done Right Promise. That promise covers the installation work for a full year. If something we set fails inside that window, we come back and correct it at no charge. Straight number, clear scope, no surprises at final invoice. That’s the way Curtis Lane has been finishing projects in Orange County for over a decade, and it’s the only way we’ll write a bid.
You’ll get a line-item breakdown before we start: posts, rails, pickets, gate hardware, demo, and labor, each on its own line. No lump sum that leaves you guessing what you paid for.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check the picket thickness with a pair of calipers, check whether the post is plumb with a level, and look for a mold stamp on the back of any loose picket. That information helps us quote faster, and we welcome it. Where DIY goes wrong on ViewLux lines is pulling a post or a panel that’s locked into place with the old rail system. The locking channels are under tension when the panel is installed, and letting one go the wrong way can send a rail cracking or leave you with 40 feet of loose pickets and no way to reset them. Setting a new post in Orange County means digging down to the correct depth for your soil, using the right aggregate, and letting it cure before loading the panel. If the footing is shallow, you’ll be back out there in two years with the same lean.
If you’ve got an entire section that has cracked, heaved, or separated, call (562) 262-2907 and let us give you a written price. If it turns out to be a picket we can snap back in, we’ll tell you that too. We don’t sell work that isn’t there.
FAQs

Properly installed ViewLux fencing in Orange County should hold up 20 to 25 years, with inland heat taking a couple of years off the surface finish and coastal salt air holding up better against fading but worse against hardware corrosion. The limiting factor is usually the post footing, not the panel. Shallow footings in our clay soil will move inside of five years.
Yes, when the failure is isolated to one panel, one post, or a gate assembly. We replace the damaged section, match the color as closely as the production run allows, and leave the rest of the line untouched. If the line is old enough that the remaining panels are chalky and brittle, we’ll tell you the repair will look mismatched and recommend replacing the run. Call (562) 262-2907 and we’ll give you an honest read before any work is scoped.
Most replacement projects are done in two to four days, including demolition, post setting, and panel installation. Gates and custom cuts to elevation add a day. If we’re pulling permits, which some Orange County cities require for fence replacement over a certain height, that can add a week or two depending on the planning department’s queue. We’ll put the timeline in the written scope.
We stock common ViewLux posts, rails, pickets, and gate kits for the current-generation profiles, and we carry aftermarket posts for the older 5/8 inch system. Unusual colors or discontinued series are special-order, and we’ll give you the lead time in days. The oddball color match from a 2004 production run will never be perfect, and we will say that plainly before you spend the money.
If you’re dealing with a failed ViewLux fence anywhere in Orange County, call (562) 262-2907 for a free estimate. We answer with a live person, we write the price down, and we stand behind the work for a full year. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s the only way we work.
