Boral Driveway & Pavers: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
Boral-compatible driveway and paver replacement in Orange County typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed for a full driveway, with individual paver replacement or repair work starting around $400 – $800 per section. We stock common Boral paver profiles and can usually match existing pavers on-site same week. Most Orange County homeowners discover a problem the hard way: a paver cracks under a parked car, a section of the driveway starts sinking after winter rain, or the surface develops a chalky haze that won’t wash off. What looks like a simple cracked paver is often a substrate failure underneath, and that’s where the real cost lives.
Bradford Remodeling Co Orange County is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Boral, but we work with their paver lines regularly and know how they behave in Orange County soil and sun.
Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral manufactures pavers and driveway systems under several product lines that turn up across Orange County homes. The ones we see most often are the Boral Clay Paver line (fired clay units in modular, cobble, and plank profiles) and the Boral Concrete Paver series, which includes interlocking units in 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for vehicular use. The 60mm units are rated for pedestrian and light-vehicle traffic; the 80mm units are what you want under a driveway that sees trucks, RVs, or heavy SUVs.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most Orange County owners run into: Boral changed paver dimensions slightly across production years, so a paver bought in 2015 may not seat flush against one bought today, even from the same product line. We measure the existing units before ordering anything. If you have the original invoice or can find the lot stamp on the underside of a loose paver, that helps us match it exactly.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Boral still manufactures several of these profiles, and we order OEM when the lot is current. When a Boral profile has been discontinued or the lot is no longer available, we use quality aftermarket equivalents that match within a millimeter or two. For a driveway with a bed of fifty pavers all from the same original lot, we’ll tell you straight if a perfect match isn’t possible and what your options are before we order a single unit.

Signs Your Boral Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Sunken or cupped pavers near the edges. This usually means the sand bed or aggregate base underneath has washed out. In Orange County, the freeze-thaw cycle is mild, but heavy winter rain moves fine sand through the joints and leaves pavers unsupported. You’ll see a low spot that collects water after every storm.
- Hairline cracks spreading across multiple pavers in a line. A single cracked paver is a paver problem. A crack running through four or five pavers in a straight or stepped line is a base problem. The pavers are flexing because the ground underneath shifts or compacts, and no paver on top of a bad base will hold.
- Chalky, whitish surface that won’t come off. Efflorescence is common in Southern California, especially on concrete pavers and clay units with mineral content. It’s not structural, but it’s a sign the pavers are breathing moisture from underneath. Sealing without fixing drainage just traps the moisture and makes it worse.
- Joint sand disappearing after every wash. If the sand between your Boral pavers washes out every time you rinse the driveway, the joints are too wide or the sand was never compacted properly. What follows is paver shift, then edge chipping, then cracks.
- Pavers rocking or shifting when you step on them. A paver that moves underfoot means the sand bed has eroded or the units were never fully seated. On a driveway, a rocking paver under a car tire becomes a cracked paver, then a broken corner, then a trip hazard.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote in Orange County, and it’s the same structure we use on every hardscape job: a written price before work starts, broken into materials, labor, and disposal, with no number that moves at the door.
| Scope | Price Range (Installed) | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|
| Individual paver replacement / repair | $400 – $800 per section | Pavers, joint sand, minor base touch-up, haul-away of broken units |
| Partial driveway resurfacing | $3,000 – $7,000 | Remove and reuse sound pavers, new sand bed, re-compaction, new joint sand |
| Full paver driveway installation | $7,000 – $18,000 | Excavation, aggregate base, sand setting bed, Boral pavers, edge restraint, joint sand, final compaction |
The range on a full driveway comes down to three things: square footage, access for equipment, and what’s under the existing pavers. If the original aggregate base is sound, we can often reuse it and save you real money. If it’s crumbling or was never compacted properly, which we see frequently in older Orange County neighborhoods, the base has to come out and be rebuilt. That’s the difference between the low end and the high end, and we’ll tell you which one you’re in before we start.
Every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the paver work fails within one year of completion, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect a Boral driveway yourself. Look at the joint sand after a rain, check for rocking pavers, and note where water pools. That’s useful information to have ready when you call a contractor, and it costs you nothing.
What you shouldn’t do is pull and reset pavers on a driveway that gets vehicle traffic. The base and compaction process is the entire job, and a hand-tamped base under a 4,000-pound car will settle within months. More importantly, if the failure is in the aggregate base, replacing the surface pavers just hides the problem. You’ll be back in the same spot next winter, only now you’ve spent a weekend and a few hundred dollars on the wrong fix. If you see cracking that runs across multiple pavers or sinking along the edges, call us at (562) 262-2907. We’ll give you a straight read on what’s actually failing before anyone picks up a shovel.
FAQs

Boral clay pavers typically last 40 – 60 years in this climate, and concrete pavers 25 – 40 years, assuming the base underneath was built correctly. The paver itself rarely wears out; the base or the joint sand fails first, and that’s what shortens the surface life. Call (562) 262-2907 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your pavers need replacing or the base just needs attention.
Small chips and corner breaks can sometimes be patched with a color-matched masonry compound, but a pavers with a crack running through its full thickness needs to be swapped out. We’ll assess it on-site and tell you which direction makes sense before you spend anything.
A typical full driveway replacement takes 5 – 10 working days, depending on access, base condition, and whether we’re reusing existing pavers. Smaller repairs are often done in a single day. We’ll put the schedule in writing before work starts, and the crew doesn’t leave until the site is broom-clean and the work is documented.
We stock common Boral profiles in the module and cobble sizes we see most across Orange County. Discontinued or unusual profiles may need to be ordered, which adds 3 – 7 days. Call (562) 262-2907 with your paver dimensions and we can tell you the same day whether it’s on hand or on order.
