Wellborn Bathroom Remodeling: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

Full Wellborn bathroom remodeling in Orange County typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a tired vanity or gutting the room to the studs. We keep Wellborn vanity components, drawer glides, hinge plates, and cabinet door stock on hand for same-week service calls across most of Orange County. Most owners discover a part has failed when a drawer starts dragging against its track, a soft-close hinge slams instead of catching, or a veneer edge starts lifting away from the cabinet box.

Call (562) 262-2907

The first thing to understand: Wellborn builds semi-custom cabinetry, which means your bathroom cabinet was assembled from a catalog of box sizes, door profiles, and finish codes – not cut one-off in some woodshop. That’s good news for you. It means the part you need exists as a documented spec, and a crew that knows Wellborn’s system can match it without guesswork. Curtis Lane has been running crews across Orange County long enough to know which Wellborn series show up in Anaheim Hills track homes and which ones came out of custom orders near Balboa Island. The failure patterns are different, and so is the fix.

A note on tools: we’re an independent Orange County remodeling contractor. We install and service Wellborn cabinetry but we’re not affiliated with Wellborn Corporate, and we don’t pass ourselves off as a factory warranty arm. What we do is match their specs with manufacturer parts or quality equivalents that fit the same footprint.

Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Wellborn’s bathroom lines break into three families you’ll recognize from your original invoice or the sticker inside the drawer box: Estate (their framed cabinetry, the most common in Orange County homes built between 1990 and 2010), Premiere (the step-up semi-custom line with more door profiles and finish options), and Cabinetworks (their newer full-access line with different hinge geometry). The part compatibility between them is not universal. A Premiere soft-close hinge plate will not seat correctly on an Estate box, even though both say Wellborn on the drawer.

To identify your part before you call, open the top drawer and look for a printed label on the inside left wall of the box. It’ll show a series code, a finish code, and sometimes a build date. If the label is gone – and in humid bathrooms, paper labels die young – measure the drawer box opening, not the drawer front. That measurement is what determines which glides and hinge overlay plates fit. Get that number right and the fix is straightforward. Get it wrong and you’re wobbling a new drawer front on old hardware, which is how you waste a Saturday and still have a sticking drawer.

One more checkable specific: Wellborn vanity bases in Estate and Premiere lines typically sit 34-1/2 inches tall in their standard height configuration, which is a full inch taller than many off-the-shelf big-box vanities. That matters if you’re replacing a water-damaged sink base. A generic 32-inch vanity will throw your plumbing rough-in and your backsplash line off by enough that the counter seam shows it. Match the original height or plan to move the rough-in.

Signs Your Wellborn Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer glides binding or grinding. This is almost always a failed ball-bearing cage inside the glide, accelerated by steam and hair-product buildup in bathrooms. The glide was rated for a certain load and damp air shortens its life. Swapping the glide is a fifteen-minute fix if the part’s in your hand.
  • Soft-close hinge slamming shut. The damper inside a Wellborn soft-close hinge wears out faster than the hinge itself, particularly on the heavy door profiles in Premiere models. You’ll see it first on the door used most, usually under the sink.
  • Veneer lifting at the cabinet base or toe kick. Bathroom floors get wet. When the toe kick wicks moisture, the laminate or wood veneer delaminates from the substrate. This is not a cosmetic complaint if it spreads – exposed substrate soaks water and the cabinet box starts to swell.
  • Finish clouding or browning above the sink. That’s moisture damage from years of splashing, and it tells you the conversion varnish has failed in that spot. Touch-up kits exist, but a refinished door doesn’t match the box color after a few years of sun and steam in an Orange County bathroom.
  • Drawer front pulling loose from the box. The cam-lock fasteners Wellborn uses can work free over time, especially on wider drawers loaded with bottles. If you ignore it, the loose front torques the glide and you end up replacing both.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

In Orange County, the line-item breakdown if we’re doing a full Wellborn vanity replacement or bathroom remodel looks like this: a lower-end job replacing one vanity, top, faucet, and mirror runs $5,000 to $12,000 for the small-bathroom scope. A mid-size bathroom with new vanity set, tub or shower liner, tile and fixtures runs $12,000 to $20,000. A full gut-and-rebuild with new Wellborn cabinetry, Cambria top, Kohler fixtures, and tile work runs $20,000 to $28,000. Those are real numbers we’ve written on contracts in Costa Mesa and Fullerton in the last eighteen months.

What’s included: the parts, the labor to install them, haul-away of the old material, and a written line-item price before we open the wall. What’s not included: surprises. If we find water damage behind a vanity, you see the number before we cut further, not after. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise is in writing on every job – if the work fails inside a year, Bradford comes back and corrects it at no charge. That guarantee covers the install and the parts we supplied.

DIY or Call Us?

Some of this is genuinely safe to check. You can pull a drawer out and read the label inside. You can photograph the failing hinge or glide with your phone so we can confirm the part before we roll the truck. You can test whether the drawer box is square by measuring corner to corner – if those two numbers match, your problem is hardware, not the cabinet box, and that’s a good day.

Where DIY goes sideways is in matching the part. Glides and hinges look nearly identical across brands, but a millimeter of difference in the mounting hole layout means you’re drilling new holes in a factory-built box, and now the drawer sits slightly proud or slightly low. We’ve fixed enough of those on Orange County bathroom vanities to know the pattern. If you want someone who already has the parts on the truck and writes the price down before touching a screwdriver, call (562) 262-2907. Straight number, clear scope, no surprises at final invoice.
